Founded in 1937, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation is dedicated to promoting the understanding and appreciation of art, primarily of the modern and contemporary periods, through exhibitions, education programs, research initiatives, and publications. As such, the Museum hosts numerous events unrelated to exhibitions to promote and celebrate the arts and education.

Event records, compiled by archives staff, document one-time events or series unrelated to exhibitions held at the Guggenheim Museum. Such events include award programs, galas, lectures, symposiums, and other public programs. Materials include published announcements, calendar of events, invitations, press clippings, photographs, program listings, and other printed materials.

The collection documents one-time events or event series unrelated to exhibitions held at the Guggenheim Museum, such as award programs, galas, lectures, symposiums, and other public programs. The collection is arranged in three series: General; Awards and Celebrations; and, Public Programs.
General contains event-related records spanning many years and which are not specific to a single or a few events, such as published calendar of events and program listings, internal memorandum, and newspaper and magazine clippings related to film screenings, dance performances, lectures, and music concerts.
Awards and Celebrations includes records related to awards programs, corporate events, members receptions, and other invite-only celebrations, such as announcements, invitations, press, and photographs.
Public Programs includes ticketed or free events open for public attendance, including announcements, brochures, postcards, press, and photographs.
In general, events in this collection are unrelated to exhibitions. Materials found in this collection are spotty and do not provide complete documentation of events held at the Guggenheim Museum. Materials continue to be added to this collection.
